In poultry feed almost all grains and feed ingredients support the growth of fungi and bacteria due to its high nutrient density, high humidity, improper harvesting practices, poor storage facilities further, aggravate the problems.

The growth of fungi reduces the nutritional quality of feed as they utilize the nutrients present in the feed for their metabolism & production and liberates toxins.

What are Mycotoxins ?
Fungal invasion of poultry feeds results in production of mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are stable chemical compound and remain undergraded during feed milling process.

Types of Mycotoxins :
Though more than 300 Mycotoxins are identified, only few are known to the toxin such as aflatoxin, ocharatoxin, cirtrinin,oosporin, T2 toxin, zearalenone etc. Each of the mycotoxin has different chemical structure. They enter the poultry gut they excert systemic effect and cause damage to specific organs or organ systems.
